January 29: He finally got the girl… and then walked away.
Eight months ago, T came to me wanting more.
More life. More connection. More…everything.
He was a late bloomer, and he wanted to make up for lost time.
Get a girlfriend.
Experience what he hadn’t yet.
That’s my jam.
So we rolled up our sleeves and we got to work.
Well, he did the work.
I poked him when he dragged his feet, challenged him when he got moody, and handed him tools that didn’t “fix” him—they fit him.
Month 7?
He got himself a girlfriend.
Hot. Wicked smart. Complicated.
(Tell me a real human who isn’t.)
I had a few questions.
He had answers.
They were falling in love—or something that looked a lot like it—and I was genuinely thrilled for him.
This week, in our session, he said something I won’t forget:
“If you’d have told me that she and I were going to get together and that I would break things off, I’d have told you you were crazy. There was nothing she could’ve done—short of having bodies buried in the freezer—that would’ve made me walk away.”
“But I was wrong.”
He realized he couldn’t be what she needed.
Not without harming himself.
And instead of twisting into a human pretzel trying to make it work…instead of staying just because she was possibly the best he’d ever get…instead of settling…
He left.
Not from fear.
From self-trust. From courage. From a knowing that he was not willing to abandon himself to be loved.
There are no words for how proud I am.
But my heart?
It’s full to bursting.
This is what I want for every one of you.
To know what it means to show up for yourself with your whole chest.
To believe—deep in your bones—that your needs matter.
That love should never cost you your peace.
And if you want that for you, too?
Let’s talk.

P.S. Has this ever happened to you? Where you stayed a little too long—or left just in time?
Reply and tell me. I’d love to hear your story.
P.P.S. T is not his real initial, but he is a real client.
