November 6: Real connection online starts with one overlooked detail…

Do you know how easy it is to “lie” with photos?

I’m not talking about AI. Or Photoshop. Or Facetune.

I mean actual photos—real, unfiltered snapshots of you, being you.

And still… they can mislead.

That’s what I was thinking about at a hotel takeover this weekend, after meeting this guy whose photos made him look like a literal snack. Shirtless, holding a puppy, lit like a rom-com lead at a Pinterest pool party. I’m not even mad. It was a fantastic photo.

And then I met him in person.

And the vibe?

Completely different.

He is kind. Nerdy. Gentle. Adorable in a totally different way.

Still attractive—but not bringing the same energy at all. It was like swiping on Thor and meeting Bruce Banner. You're not upset, exactly… but you definitely have to recalibrate.

It wasn’t a lie.

It just didn’t match him.

And that mismatch?

It’s something I see all the time—especially with online dating photos.

Even one of my clients recently had this lightbulb moment when I pointed out that while one of his photos was technically him, it wasn’t quite the version of him someone would actually be with on a random Wednesday.

It was giving a vibe he doesn’t actually carry—and that could attract people who didn’t quite get him.

I think about this when I choose my own photos too.

Yes, I want to look good. I want to show off a little. Who doesn’t?

But I also really want people to see the real me. The travel-me and the chill-at-home-me. The makeup days, the no-makeup days.

Because I don’t just want attention.

I want alignment.

So here’s the question I’d love you to ask yourself:

Do your photos reflect the person you are—or just the moment you looked the most “dateable”?

Because getting swipes is one thing.

But if you're looking for connection—for actual chemistry and shared adventures and someone who digs the real you?

Your photos have to tell the truth.

And if you’re not quite sure what truth yours are telling, let’s chat.

I do this kind of clarity work all the time in my Big Ask sessions—and it’s amazing what we can uncover in just 15 minutes.
