October 24: I don’t build community. I do this instead.
Last night, one of my local clients made it to his first “Nookie” event.
He wasn’t sure he could—family stuff, dad life—but he got a hall pass and came out.
I’m so glad he did.
We had 78 people at the mixer. Chatting, connecting, laughing their asses off. Alcoholic drinks, non-alcoholic drinks, big vibes.
Not what most people expect from a kinky crowd.
(Surprise!)
At one point, he turned to me and said: "You built an amazing community."
But here’s the truth:
I didn’t build or create the community. The people are the community.
What I did create is culture.
That’s the thing people often overlook.
Culture is what makes a group feel safe, warm, alive—not performative or power-trippy. It’s not about control or titles or “leaders.” It’s about what we cultivate. What we protect and prioritize.
At every event, Discord, or party I help run, I bake in two core ideas:
Be welcoming. Be accepting.
Add in consent, negotiation, and other sexy basics—and that’s the secret sauce.
That’s what draws the right people in.
That’s what fills me up.
And when one of my clients gets to experience that? Whether in-person or somewhere across the country?
That’s the part that makes me proud of what I do.
If they’re local, I help them feel it. If they’re not, I help them create it—from scratch for themselves, if we have to.
Like another client who’s getting suspended in rope for the first time this weekend. (YES!)
This isn’t just about kink (heck yeah, kink).
Not just about sex (though hey, yay for sex).
It’s not even just about love (but we all love love).
It’s about finding YOUR people. Creating something that feeds you. A community that doesn’t make you feel like you’re too weird, too much, or not enough.
