August 19: This kind of lonely doesn't look lonely at all…

Yesterday I had a Big Ask call about finding a life partner, and we talked a bit about the male loneliness epidemic.

That conversation has been rattling around in my head ever since.

Here's the thing though:

When I think about loneliness, I don't just think about men.

I think about everyone.

Every age, every gender, every race.

Because I've been there too, and it wasn't pretty.

I think a lot of people don't recognize how lonely they actually are.

Or they don't give it the weight it deserves.

Because they have people.

Friends.

Family.

A partner, maybe.

But here's what you might already know, deep in your bones:

You can be lonely even surrounded by people who love you.

Even while married.

Even while "not alone" by every measure that shows up on paper.

Because you don't feel seen.

You don't feel known.

You don't feel like you belong anywhere, even in the rooms full of people who technically care about you.

Humans are social creatures.

Sure, there's the rare unicorn who'd genuinely rather live off-grid with zero human contact.

But that's the exception, not the rule.

Most of us are healthier and happier when we get to be fully, unapologetically ourselves around people who actually accept that.

"I've got friends!" someone told me once, right after describing how they'd always felt different.

Like they didn't belong anywhere.

Ever.

And that's the gap I want to share with you today.

There's a real difference between the friends you grab drinks with or watch sportsball with, and the friends who'd show up for the emotional stuff.

The ones who would help you bury a body, figuratively or otherwise.

The people who know you're not like everyone else, and love you for it.

Not in spite of it.

This is why I do what I do.

The coaching.

The mixers.

The parties.

The communities.

All of it.

Because I believe the world gets better when more people feel like they belong somewhere, and feel loved for exactly who they are.

Because I've been lonely and I know what it costs.

If any of this is landing, even a little, let's talk about it.

P.S. Have you ever felt lonely in a room full of people who loved you?

Hit reply and tell me. I actually read these, and this is a topic I'll probably keep chewing on.
