February 18: The only metric that matters.

I watched a clip this morning that wasn’t allowed to air.

An interview between James Talarico and Stephen Colbert on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Pulled. Quieted.

Because MAYBE the FCC is circling talk show hosts and “sensitive” content and the studio decided to comply ahead of time.

Here’s the line that stopped me cold:

“Don't tell me what you believe. Show me how you treat other people, and I will know what you believe.” — James Talarico

THIS.

In a world drowning in hot takes, outrage cycles, algorithm-fed fury, and performative righteousness…

That’s the metric.

Not the flag in your bio. Not the podcast you quote. Not the theology you argue. Not the tribe you claim.

How do you treat people?

Especially the ones who can’t give you anything back.

Especially the ones who disagree with you.

Especially when no one is watching.

There is so much sadness right now. So much loneliness. So much quiet suffering hiding behind curated profiles and loud opinions.

We do not fix that with louder and meaner words.

We fix it by living our values so visibly and consistently that the right people can find us.

We fix it by being safe.

By being kind.

By being fierce in our protection of one another’s humanity.

No long message today.

Just this:

Offer a smile. A hand up. A hand out. Give someone a reason to see good in the world today.

Be that good.

And love each other hard.

P.S. If this hit home, send me a message.

If you need a smile for yourself, or a quote, or something ridiculous to make you snort-laugh… reach out.

I’m here.
